International Speech Contest on 4th March 2014

Meeting on 4th March with John Palmer as the Toastmaster of the evening

If you attended the meeting on 4th March, you may have noticed that the meeting is once again filled with members and guests! And if you did not attend the meeting, you have missed out on the great speeches presented in the club’s International Speech Contest! Anyway, here is a short summary of the meeting.

International Contestants: (left to right) Diana, Saliya, Mike Palmer, Chandana, Verdine (Contest Chair)

Our member, Verdine, took up the opportunity as contest chair for the first time to introduce the four contestants: Mike, Diana, Saliya and Chandana. Here is a recap of the speeches delivered by each contestant that evening:

Mike told us that “the man who drives himself further, despite the pain, is the man who wins”. Diana advised us that “when life gives you a ripple, make a wave”! Saliya inspired and reminded us that “life is about you, being you”. Chandana reminded us about the Beatles’ song, Yesterday, as he told us about his story- “Yesterday, all my troubles seemed so far away.. Now it looks as though they are here to stay”!

All the speeches presented by the contestants were fabulous, with inspiring messages for the audience, definitely making it challenging for the judges! Among the contestants, the second place went to Diana Vietch. And the winner of Canning Vale’s International Speech Contest 2014 went to……..

Our president, Mike Palmer!

Congratulations to Mike! That’s two wins in two weeks! Great job!

Winner announced: (left to right) Verdine, Diana, Mike Palmer, William (Chief Judge)

Note to everyone: Winning doesn’t mean that you have mastered the skill. It just means that you have the opportunity to explore Toastmasters at a whole new level! So everyone is always encouraged to join the club contest in the future. 🙂

The club contest period has come to an end. Back to our normal meeting next week! Feel free to join us next Tuesday evening at 6.30pm to have a glimpse of our meeting.
