What an amazing weekend for the Canning Vale club at the recent District 17 Convention – City of Dreams, which was held at the Four Points Sheraton in the heart of the city.
Our President, Vanessa Chang was representing us in 2 contests, the International on Saturday and the Humorous on the Sunday. Past President, Mike Palmer was receiving his DTM on the Saturday night and giving his DTM acceptance speech on the Sunday morning. And the Marvelous Membership award and the PPP award were being presented on the Sunday closing ceremony.
Well I can tell you that Vanessa gave an amazing speech for the International contest. Her “Attitude of Gratitude” was the first speech which turned out to be a high calibre final which Vanessa just missed out on placing. Vanessa then placed second in the Humourous contest with her speech “I Told you So”. Vanessa is the first CVTM member to place in a District final, so we are very proud of her achievement.
Mike achieved his DTM in July of 2015 and became our 6th DTM recipient for the club. He was overjoyed when the DTM medallion was placed over his head at the Gala dinner and he gave an amazing speech at the DTM breakfast, thanking his mentors along the way, especially his father, John Palmer who was the 3rd DTM recipient at the club in July 2011.
The weekend was capped off when CVTM was awarded the Marvelous Membership award with the most membership payments and new members in the District, gratefully accepted by our President Vanessa. Then the crowning glory of winning the PPP Award for the second time being the club that had the most points, by promoting their club. The award was gleefully collected by our VPPR, Robyn Richards and President Vanessa Chang.
