John Palmer became the 3rd member of Canning Vale to achieve the Distinguished Toastmaster award, the highest award given in Toastmasters, on July 14th 2011. John achieved this goal in just 2 and a half years and now joins Mark & Robyn Richards as DTMs for Canning Vale. Congratulations to John and I'm sure he is already working on his 2nd DTM.

John Palmer receives his DTM on the 14th July 2011. Phyll Lightbody receives her CL on the 7th Sept 2011
This years recipient of the coveted "CVTM Toastmaster of the Year" has gone to Takashi Kurihara. Takashi was a popular winner as he has shown the true qualaties of a caring and giving member. Takashi was shocked when his name was announced but eventually came forward to accept his accolades from the members. Takashi has grown so much over the years with Canning Vale and as english is his second language, this is a remarkable achievement.

Takashi receives the Toastmaster of the Year trophy from new Preident, John Cecchi.

It was a wet night indeed as the heavens opened up on the Change Over dinner and Awards night on Friday 24th June 2011, but it did not dampen the excitment of the Canning Vale members. On the night our new VPE Robyn Richards was awarded the District 73 Division Governor of the year from the 10 Divisions throughout the District.

Wow what a weekend at the "Swan Song on the Swan" convention held at the Parmelia Hilton in Perth May 20-22.
Canning Vale won the Knox award for the 2nd time with the most members from one club in attendance. We had 23 members and a handful of partners, to make it a very memorable event. Here we are pictured at the Gala Dinner "Top Hat & Tales", hence all the bow ties.

On the Friday night, our own Jean Boladeras performed the "Welcome to Country" and her son Peter Jordan delivered a superb performance as Contest Chair at the Humorous Contest.

Robyn was the SAA for the Saturday at the International contest then received her DTM at the Saturday night Gala Dinner.

The Gala Dinner was a hoot.

December was buzzing with Christmas spirit at CVTM. It started with a Christmas party at Peter Jordan's home where members enjoyed dining, drinking, and lots of fun activities. The pool was like a hot spa and the games were just as hot. After a feast of BBQ delights the members enjoyed a game of Headbandz where we had to guess who we were by asking questions about our character. This was followed by a game of Balderdash, where you have 3 members tell a story about a true event, name , place etc with only 1 of them giving the true answer. This was lots of fun.

Our Christmas meeting was held on the 14th Dec and all members got into the spirit of the season. The night started with a chris kringle table topics session, where each member opened their present and gave a short speech about the present.

Our President Phyll tries to shake her pressie for a clue. John is extremely happy with his giant bon-bon.

Kwang seems pleased with his gift and so too does Nilakshi. Nilakshi & Shehan are leaving us next year to start their new business in Sri Lanka. We wish them all the best.
After table topics we were treated to 3 CC speeches from our members. Michele Naidu told us a lot of facts about Christmas in her CC7 speech. This was followed by Dave Clarke's CC9 speech where he tried to persuade us to buy his Nissan Skyline (with a new holden keyring) for a Christmas present. Fiona McLean gave her CC2 speech about the different type of party games you can do to make your next party a real hit. Maybe we can play some of them at next years Christmas party.

Like all good Canning Vale special meetings, there was plenty of yummy food for everyone.
Robyn Richards, past President and now Western Division Governor has achieved the honourable title of Distinguished Toastmaster, the highest award one can achieve in Toastmasters. Robyn gained this title in July 2010, after joining the club in March 2008, making it only 2 years and 4 months to make it to DTM status. We think this could be world record time in which to achieve a DTM. When asked how she achieved this milestone so fast, Robyn said “I never intended to get my DTM so fast but when fellow club member, John Palmer said to me that he would get his DTM in less than 3 years, it really gave me the incentive”.
To achieve a DTM you must give at least 40 speeches, 4 workshops, CL manual, be a club officer, be a District Officer, run a Speechcraft course and start or mentor a new club.

Robyn receives her DTM plaque and DTM badge from Club President, Phyll Lightbody.
